Career Partnership Program

The Career Partnership Program (CPP) is a partnership between the Greater Meredith Program and the Inter-Lakes School District.

The Greater Meredith Program (GMP) is a nonprofit community economic development organization seeking to enhance our economic vitality, historical and cultural heritage, and town-wide beautification.

The Career Partnership Program is based in the Guidance Department at the Inter-Lakes Middle High School. Melisa Moore, the Director of CPP, assists students in obtaining job shadows and internships in the local community. She also works between the community and the school to bring guest speakers into the classrooms as well as provide an annual job fair, career readiness workshops, volunteer opportunities and job listings throughout the year.

This is a beneficial program for both the school, the GMP and the community at large by providing a strong networking system between the students and the local business community. The focus being on career experiences and guiding students to choose an industry that they are interested in pursuing.

Learn More About the CPP

The Career Partnership Program (CPP) is an initiative co-sponsored by GMP and the Inter-lakes School District that provides students the opportunity to explore future career planning through job shadowing and internships and hands-on working experiences in and around Meredith.

In 2024 the CPP welcomed director Melisa Moore.

What Students Should Know

The beauty of the Career Partnership Program is it allows students to experiment with different career options BEFORE committing to a particular college, major or field of employment.

Most interns are unpaid positions, but credits are available for an internship. Students must be passing all their classes to participate in this program.

What is the difference between a job shadow and an internship?

A job shadow is short-term, usually a few hours or half a day. Students follow a local professional to observe a career of interest They are encouraged to ask questions about training, skills and tasks associated with that career. The purpose of this experience is to provide a snapshot of various career opportunities. An internship is a long-term (i.e. a semester), usually unpaid, experience. Juniors and Seniors are invited to schedule an internship at a local business of interest.

An internship has a set schedule each week and students participate in various functions within the business. Students make connections with the business community, gain knowledge and real-world experience in a job field of interest and may also earn high school credit.

With my diverse experiences and a fresh perspective, I am excited to step into the role of Director of the Career Partnership Program. Throughout my career, I have been driven by a passion for education and community development. I come to this role having worked in the Inter-Lakes School District for five years as a paraeducator, extra-curricular coach, and soccer coach, providing guidance and support to participants, as well as gaining valuable insights into the educational system and student development. Prior to this, I dedicated 15 years to the nonprofit sector, as an event planner and fundraiser, developing strong partnerships and creating impactful community events. I am passionate about empowering individuals to reach their full potential. I am excited about fostering new partnerships that will enhance career opportunities that will benefit our future workforce and lead to the success of the program.

Director, Career Partnership Program | Greater Meredith Program/Inter-Lakes Middle High School

Job Shadows

Students visit a business, shadowing a professional for a few hours or a half day. During this visit, students observe a career of interest and have the opportunity to ask questions about the training skills, and tasks associated with the career

Internships

Juniors and Seniors are invited to work with Mrs. Moore and schedule an internship at a local business of interest. An internship has a set schedule each week and students participate in various functions within the business. Students can earn high school credit(s), once requirements have been met

Annual Spring Job Fair

CPP holds an annual one-day job fair each spring as an opportunity for our local businesses and students to obtain summer employment. This is a time for students to meet with a variety of businesses, interview, and go through the application process

Guest Speakers

The Career Partnership Program connects classroom teachers with speakers who are directly related to the subject being taught. Speakers can enhance a student’s learning by giving a “real life” connection and possible career path for the subject area and allows students the opportunity to ask related questions

Community Service and Volunteerism

CPP can help students connect with local nonprofits for community service. Not only is volunteering a rewarding experience for students, but keeping track of volunteer hours can be beneficial when applying to college and looks great on a resume
